What started as a “mommy and me” class when I was two, turned in to a lifelong passion. A sport that I love with every fiber of my being. My mom took me out of gym for almost 2 years when I was around 4 to play other sports but I didn’t like them so she brought me back to gymnastics. Thank goodness, this sport goes hand in hand with my love of circus. The combination of both sports (yes, circus IS a sport – you try aerial silks or tight wire :)) truly is where my heart is.
Currently, I just completed my 2nd Level 8 year and I am now working my Level 9 skills so that I can advance levels in the fall. It’s going to be a real testament this year being able to move up since I will be gone for 10 weeks during prime training time this summer so I can run away to travel with the circus. I do feel confident that I can balance both and prove that I can still be a worthy gymnastics competitor even with missing core practice time. Quitting or working less is simply not an option. As my mom tells me…..often…it’s time to suck it up buttercup…….my sport, my love, I CAN do it!
I really feel very lucky to be at the gym I train at. I have the best coaches, best teammates who are like family and the most drama FREE girls I know. We really support each other. It’s a good thing since we spend at least 19+ hours a week together during the school year and over 26+ hours a week together every summer. Balance beam is my favorite element in gym, and when my mom asked me to write down my about me, gym life, etc., as I started writing it all down, I was almost a little overwhelmed with how much I balance which makes sense that balance beam would be my favorite. A day in my life is not for the faint of heart, lol but I wouldn’t have it any other way. 🙂
